Background

Cuffy Sullivan and Roger Moss founded the SCC in 2006. At the time the SCC filled a void in music education in Savannah. This void was particularly noticeable in the lower income and minority populations of the city. The SCC was designed to include these populations and encourage communication between them. Over the past 11 years the SCC has helped Savannah’s music education program grow. All the while the SCC has grown in size and in programing. Membership in SCC has grown each year of it’s existence. SCC performances and travel programs have grown in number and complexity as the Choir has expanded. This growth will continue in 2017 when the SCC Bluffton Chapter will open in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Impact

Accomplishments:

1. The SCC Premier Choir traveled to Ireland for performances and workshops.

2. Hired a full time conductor after having worked with a part time conductor fro all of 2016-17.

3. The SCC Prep choir traveled to Asheville, North Carolina for performances at the Biltmore.

4. The SCC conducted a successful summer camp lead by internationally recognized musicians Sophia and Jim Papoulis.

5. The SCC began working with a new data management program to support our efforts to track our members, alumni and patrons.

Goals:

1. The SCC plans to open a satellite chapter in Bluffton, South Carolina.

2. The SCC plans to hire a full time Managing Director.

3. The SCC plans to travel internationally in the summer of 2018.

4. The SCC will increase revenue through increased ticket sales.

5. To increase the diversity of revenue sources.

Needs

1. The SCC would like to see an increase in revenue. The Bluffton Chapter is expected to cost around $130,000. The SCC needs to increase the diversity of its income to compensate for this increase in spending.

2. The SCC needs to work with additional venues in Savannah to provide a better audience experience.

3. The SCC needs to improve its data management.

4. The SCC needs to recruit a more diverse membership.

5. The SCC needs more diversity in its Board members.

Description

SCC Summer Camp: SCC Summer Camp is a two-week summer camp program. Summer camp is a main recruiting and audition program for the SCC. Camp provides a means to prepare all future SCC members for what the year long program will be like, introduce the years music and introduce new members to the expectations of the SCC. Not all campers join the SCC, so fun education programming is folded into the rehearsal and auditions. The 2017 Camp is expected to have 200 campers.
