Background CONTINUOUS OPERATION SINCE 1965, STARTING AS A LOW COST SHOPPING ALTERNATIVE FOR THE WORKING POOR ON HILTON HEAD.  INCORPORATED AS A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION IN 1970. CONTINUES AS A LOW COST SHOPPING ALTERNATIVE,  AND  ALSO AWARDS CASH GRANTS AND IN-KIND SUPPORT TO CHARITIES AND SOCIAL AGENCIES IN BEAUFORT COUNTY

CEO/Executive Director Statement The Bargain Box provides a way to recycle usable items that they no longer need in order to benefit local residents and organizations.  It’s a convenient place to bring items they decide they can do without after cleaning out their closets and cupboards – and it's a number to call for a donation pick up of furniture or appliances which are being replaced or downsized.
Board Chair Statement Over 300 volunteers are the heart and soul of The Bargain Box. These dedicated volunteers give their time and talents to operating The Bargain Box in order to make a difference in Beaufort County. Bargain Box Volunteers commit to work at least one three hour shift per week on a mutually agreed to schedule. This level of commitment is required because each volunteer is an important cog in the operation of The Bargain Box and is trained to carry out his or her duties to best support the whole operation. Volunteers make the Bargain Box what it is.

Programs
Description Through the proceeds of our thrift store The Bargain Box has been a major factor in their ability to provide needed services and programs. The Bargain Box, at its discretion, donates the net proceeds from the sales in its store to qualified Beaufort County charitable agencies in the form of Cash Grants. The Bargain Box also provides in-kind support to various local agencies - primarily from donated items. Grants are made annually with grant applications being due on May 1st of each calendar year.
