Background
Hilton Head Christian School (HHCA) was founded in 1979 and has a 13 acre campus located in beautiful Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Our vision is to know Christ and make Him known. HHCA is an accredited member of the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools through AdvanceED. These associations assure that HHCA meets and exceeds the highest standards of performance in our academic programming. The school participates in the South Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (SCISA). Here are just a few testimonials:

"HHCA has been part of our lives for over 25 years, and we've had the privilege of seeing the original vision of the school not only become a reality, but truly exceed expectations. HHCA has built a reputation for excellence in so many areas - academics, athletics, fine arts, a caring faculty, a beautiful campus, technological advances, community service - while always striving to accomplish its mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. Hilton Head Christian Academy is an extension of our home as we continue to build lifelong friendships, share precious memories, and most importantly, partner with the school to encourage our children as they grow in their faith and understand their world from a biblical perspective. We are so grateful that our family is part of the HHCA family!"

"Hilton Head Christian Academy is so much more than education for our two girls. We feel like the teachers at HHCA are an extension of our family. Their love for the Lord is lived out by always being there to support our children in and out of the classroom. By fostering student friendships, giving extra grace on an “off day”, or simply pointing out the strengths of our girls, we see the difference that comes from being in a loving Christian environment."

"The faculty and staff are there to support our children through every aspect of growing and learning so our children can reach their full potential in Christ."

"On March 1-3, I had the pleasure of hosting a group of students, teachers and parents from Hilton Head Christian Academy. I’ve hosted several thousand student groups on their annual class trip to Washington D.C. during my years as a tour guide and operator. I must tell you that the students from HHCA truly stand out . . . It was a pleasure to work with Michele McShane and the other sponsors. . . . The entire community can be very proud of this group."

Needs

In the 2013-2014 school year, Campaign Arête was launched. Campaign Arête is a five year, $1.25 million campaign, that will assist HHCA in advancing its strategic goals as a school.  Arête  is a Greek concept that means  potential fulfilled, and that is the heart of Campaign Arête, seeing our students reach their full potential in Christ.

It focuses on three specific areas: classroom and curricular enhancements ($750,000); Capital needs like facilities and technological resources ($350,000); and building our endowment ($150,000).

After four years of the Campaign Arête initiative, over $1,100,000 has been given to HHCA, which has an immediate and direct impact for ALL of our students.

We are excited about the opportunity we have to encourage you to be a part of Campaign Arête. Our faculty, staff and board have fully participated in Campaign Arête and here are just a few of the current projects that we are working on:

Foreign Language Lab ($75,000)
Endowment Fund ($150,000)
New Robotics Lab and Classroom Space ($50,000)

CEO/Executive Director Statement

A life of impact manifests itself in a wide variety of ways because God has given us all unique gifts and talents. Accordingly, it looks different for each of us and for each of our students. The path for a student gifted in music and drama may look different than that of an athlete, an artist, or an academic scholar.

It is our desire to create an environment in which every student is challenged, encouraged and loved so that they can become all that God has called them to be. We are committed to help each student discover the purpose God has for them so that they can confidently step into the life He is calling them to live, exceptionally prepared to boldly engage the world for His glory.

Here, they can discover, develop, and display their gifts and talents, while coming to know the Creator that gave them their unique abilities. Hilton Head Christian Academy exists so students can experience the transforming power of Christ in an academic setting. Our vision is to know Christ and make Him know in our school, our community, and our world.

While it is relatively easy to put words on paper, it is a wholly different thing to make those words a reality in the halls, classrooms, and offices of a school. I believe that is what makes HHCA exceptional. I encourage you to explore and learn more about our community, our vision, our culture and our results, and I invite you to come and see the difference for yourself. It would be our honor to partner with you in empowering minds, engaging hearts and equipping hands for Jesus Christ.

Board Chair Statement

When my family decided to move here 13 years ago, I remember one of our biggest concerns was where our three children (11, 6 and 3 at the time) would attend school.  We did not know much about the area and knew even less about the educational options; we just knew the decision was important.  My wife, Lee, and I spent time discussing what really mattered to us.  We talked about the hopes and dreams we had for each of our children.  We talked about the importance of the foundation that would be built in the coming years.  Deciding where your child will spend a large percentage of their time away from home is a big deal.  What teachers and friends will influence their thinking?  Will they be academically, intellectually and spiritually prepared for their next step?  With that in mind, as a Board, we recognize the fundamental trust you have placed in the faculty/staff of Hilton Head Christian Academy.  We take that trust very seriously.  We hope you feel, as we do, that we are blessed with an incredibly gifted, caring and committed group of faculty and staff.  Each day, they pour themselves into the lives of our children. Each interaction laying another brick that will help build a firm foundation.

As a Board, we are committed to the following mission: “The mission of the School Board is to make viability-based decisions for the next generation of students who will attend Hilton Head Christian Academy.  This is done by focusing on the school mission, funding the strategic vision, and leaving a legacy of Christ-centered excellence for our children's children.”Simply put, the Board’s focus is on the long term health and growth of Hilton Head Christian Academy (i.e. “next generation, children’s children”). The Board does not get involved in the daily operations of the school. Instead, we entrust those decisions to Dr. Wesche, our Headmaster, as he provides leadership and direction to the HHCA faculty and staff. This model of governance is the standard for private secondary education and allows the Board to stay focused on further developing the strategic vision and mission of our school.

With that said, we encourage you to reach out to the administration and faculty with your encouragement and feedback. Personally, I have always found those one on one discussions to be a blessing. In addition, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any Board member if you have questions about the role of the Board or the exciting plans that are in place for the future. This a very exciting time in the life of the school and the future holds incredible opportunity to do “immeasurably more”. We would love to hear from you.

In closing, as Lee and I reflect on the prayerful choice we made 13 years ago, we find ourselves in awe.  In awe of God’s goodness.  In awe of the way He has worked and continues to work in the lives of our children through the faculty, staff, friends and families of Hilton Head Christian Academy.  In awe that our two daughters have continued to rely on the lessons and relationships they experienced while students at HHCA.  In awe that our son, having just returned from the High School retreat, is only two short years away from graduation.  We are in awe of the foundation He has built.
