Mission Statement Operation R&R is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping military families of service men and women and "Families of the Fallen" Gold Star spouses and parents to reconnect and re-integrate, deal with the problems of reintegration and in easing post deployment stress. This has been accomplished by providing a virtually free weeks vacation in donated rental properties on Hilton Head Island and hopefully other various "affiliate" locations. This provides these deserving military families the opportunity to "reconnect" with their loved ones at little or no cost.

This has been accomplished by providing a virtually free weeks vacation in donated rental properties on Hilton Head Island and hopefully other various "affiliate" locations. Background
In 2008, Dr. Grant Evans, a local chiropractor, was watching as Soldiers were returning from deployment. He mentioned to his wife that it would be nice to offer their vacation rental on Hilton Head Island to one of these families. A few phone calls later, he found a family to stay in his unit and mentioned this to some friends in Long Cove Plantation. They were enthusiastic about the idea and Operation R&R was initiated and became a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It is the only local charity that deals directly with the multitude of "reintegration" issues that our military families deal with; high divorce rates, suicide, PTSD, substance abuse and child separation anxiety issues, that these families are dealing with. We help provide relief with these mental health issues by providing these families with a no stress, no cost, 4-7 night stay in donated rental units allowing them to experience the compassion and love from the island's landscape, restaurants, attractions, and allowing them "alone" time with nature and family. We have recently expanded these efforts by having "Gold Star" parents and spouses, whose loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice, to the island.

We bring military families in from Hunter Army Airfield, Home to the US Army Ranger Battalion and an Aviation Brigade, Fort Stewart, Home of the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division, from Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station, Home of the F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets and from Parris Island Marine Corps Training Base.

Gold Star Families come from all over the United States. It is especially meaningful for these families to have an opportunity to begin a new normal for them without their son, daughter, wife or husband who has died while on active duty.

Operation R&R runs from September thru May each season and to date we have brought over 1600 military and Gold Star families, representing over $4,000,000 worth of vacations at virtually no cost! We strive to bring 200 military and Gold Star families in during the next season.

Operation R&R now has 15 rental management companies who, through the home owners, donate rental units to Operation R&R for the miliatry families. We also have over 60 restaurant owners who provide discounts and numerous business and recreational companies that offer discounts as well. It is truly a community effort to provide a respite for these families who sacrifice so much every day.

Impact
The top three accomplishments from this season (September thru May) would be:
  •  We brought in close to 80 deserving military families to Hilton Head for a virtually free week of R&R. This brings the total to over 1700 military families brought into Hilton Head Island and Charleston since Operation R&R started in 2008.
  • We have expanded slightly the number of Gold Star (killed in action) parents, spouses, and children brought in this season.
  • We have added a number of new impassioned Board Members to replace some of the previous Board Members who have rotated off of the Operation R&R Board.
Needs
  • Increased funding to offset some of the lost income from local grants being lost because of not helping individuals and/or families located in Beaufort County only.
  • Additional funding to reinstate the "Grocery Gift Card" program to help the military families offset their out of pocket expenses.
  • A recent great need for additional donated rental units to accomplish our goal of bringing approximately 150-175 families in. We believe that due to some of the changing dynamics of our military's ongoing worldwide fight against terrorism, that there has been a recent apathy for our participating management companies to procure their owners to donate as in the past.
CEO/Executive Director Statement What started a number of years ago of bringing "a few families" in for a getaway family vacation, that these families could otherwise never afford, has expanded quickly to bringing in over 1700 families a number of years later. With the need for further private donations and donated rental units, we have broadened our search for such funding. We have also hired a marketing company to reach out to owners of rental properties directly on Hilton Head Island.
Board Chair Statement Military members experience a myriad of issues as a result of the repeated deployments over the past 14 years; issues such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) suicide, high divorce rates and their children suffer as well. Providing a week of rest and relaxation in Hilton Head gives the Service Member and his or her family time to reconnect and reestablish the bonds that may need to be repaired as a result of the separation during deployments.

Executive Director/CEO Dr. Grant Evans, CEO & Founder
Experience Dr  Grant Evans is the current CEO and has been in that capacity since Operation R&R started in 2008. Prior to that I have been a practicing Chiropractor in Columbus, Ohio  since 1980 and was owner of Reynoldsburg Chiropractic Center, a very high volume, successful practice for 30 years. Our current Income Projection for this season (Sept. 2015 thru May 2016) is approx. $15,000-$18,000 and our Expense Projections are approx. $54,000 assuming we can initiate all of the programs outlined in our online profile for this year.

Description
While Operation R&R can provide the lodging through the generosity of the local homeowners, our military families still incur extra costs to come to Hilton Head Island. Many of the families are lower enlisted Soldiers and Marines and quite a few have several children. All of the donated rental units have full kitchens allowing the families to prepare some of their meals, thereby reducing the need to eat each meal out in restaurants.

In the past, two private grocery stores donated food cards to Operation R&R for families to use to offset added expenses of staying for the week. Those stores have closed, the chain grocery stores have their own charities to whom they donate. Unfortunately, Operation R&R is not one of them.

In providing the funding to cover the cost of food cards, each family taking part in our program for a 7 night stay would receive a food card of $50. We know this is not a lot for a family of 4-6, but it could cover food for breakfasts and lunches for that family.

Short Term Success Having funds to provide gift cards to families who stay for 4-7 nights for the 2015-16 season.
Long Term Success Having the funds to purchase gift cards for every family that comes to Hilton Head Island through our program each year.
Program Success Monitored BY Our success is measured through statements that are gathered from those who have received a vacation through Operation R&R or statements from Commanding Officers whose enlisted Servicemen receive a vacation through Operation R&R
Description Many rental property owners are reluctant to donate their villas or condos due to the cost of cleaning. Cleaning fees can range from $200-$400 depending on the size of the unit. If Operation R&R could cover the cleaning fees, we are confident that many more property owners would donate their rental properties. This would allow us to bring more deserving families and Gold Star families to Hilton Head Island.
Short Term Success Having funds to pay for the cleaning fees for the 2015-16 season on a trial basis.
Long Term Success More military families participating in Operation R&R as a result of an increase in rental units as a result of homeowners not having to pay for cleaning fees.
Program Success Monitored BY The success of the program will be monitored by an increase in the number of units donated as a result of the program.
